Kids today live in the real world. A world that is full of amazing opportunities and experiences, as well as incredibly dangerous risks and challenges. Sometimes they, and you, need help to survive in the real world of high school.
The Washington Community High School Early Intervention Program has been offered since 2004. The intention of the Early Intervention Counseling Program is designed to support students and their families with non-medical, short-term, solution focused counseling support to help assist them with the many challenges that can be part of the journey through high school.
Early Intervention services at the high school are provided at no cost to individual students and their families and are available throughout the school year. Referral options and resources are also available if needed.
Walt Nunnally, with Illini Family Counseling, is credentialed both as a mental health professional as well as a substance abuse counselor. He is located in the Counseling Office at the high school and is on Campus Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Real World Parents
Resources
There are resources made available for parents and caregivers though the Early Intervention Program that are designed to empower their effectiveness and strengthen their families.
Parent and caregiver Support Groups are offered each month at the Illini Family Counseling Office. Each meeting is specifically designed to provide parents and caregivers information and ideas that they can put into action in order to create positive changes in their child and in their families. Parents move beyond feeling isolated and come together to deal with the pressures, worries, and challenges that many have struggled with alone.
In addition to the monthly support groups, there are also several Saturday Workshops offered throughout the year to equip parents and caregivers with ideas, tools, and resources designed to offer practical solutions to real world challenges such as defiant, disrespectful attitudes, lying, cursing, lazy, unmotivated behavior, and more. You will learn the exact techniques to help children and adolescents take responsibility for their behavior and help you get back in control of your home.
